All the products in this section have been carved according to bas relief principles in Yogya Limestone. Bas-relief is a method of sculpting which entails carving or etching away the surface of a flat piece of stone creating a sculpture portrayed as a picture. Some pieces offered by Asian Opus are carved through such that you can see clearly through the piece in places - a process which we refer to as 'fretwork'.
Balinese architecture often inserted bas relief panels into the outside walls of a dwelling to allow air ventilation. In addition these panels were often used as decorative messages to ward of bad spirits and to welcome good spirits.
The examples of bas relief 'wall art' offered here can be used in a number of ways indoors and outdoors. |

Frame your piece of wall art in a pale wooden mount (which we can get done for you at an additional charge) and hang on a feature wall.
Incorporate the bas relief into an over mantle or headboard.
Use your carved panel in a partition wall or screen to allow some visibility between rooms with related functions in your house e.g. kitchen and dining area.
For fretwork pieces try mounting them in front of a mirror or coloured background to gain better contrast and enhance the definition of the carving.
Hang wherever you practice yoga to centre you during your meditations.

Try mounting a number of pieces along a garden boundary wall to draw your eye in the desired direction and minimize the sterilise look of a plain plastered wall.
Embed in a low wall to decorate and define a particular area outside. |
